Long before colonization, before written history, the Isles of the Seven Winds were a scatter of powerful island kingdoms joined by the sea. Trade flourished between them, warriors trained from childhood, and every island kept its own fighting style. The mortal world and the spirit realm stood close together, so close that spirits still walked openly among humans, and no one thought that strange. That closeness was not an accident. It was a balance, and like all balances, it had been built on a sacrifice — and broken by a man's ambition. The kingdoms themselves are as varied as the sea that joins them. Some are rich from trade, their harbors crowded with outrigger ships and markets that smell of spice and salt. Some are mountain strongholds where warriors are raised on cliff paths and taught that a fall is a teacher. Some are small and proud, guarding a single bay or a single style of fighting as if it were a treasure. What they share is the sea, the warrior's code, and the memory of the spirits — and when war comes, it is the sea that carries both the armies and the news of them, faster than any rider. Thousands of years before the story begins, the First Light created seven Elemental Stones: primordial stones that held the forces of lightning, water, wind, fire, earth, shadow, and the stars themselves. The stones were entrusted to powerful spirits, and as long as they remained apart and guarded, the isles held their balance. Then came Morvain, the greatest warrior in history. He united kingdoms, defeated monsters, and slew sea serpents, and none of it was enough. He wanted immortality, and he believed the seven stones could give it to him. He betrayed the spirits and tried to absorb all seven at once. The attempt failed. His body perished, but his soul did not. It became trapped between life and death, unable to truly live and unable to truly die, waiting through the centuries for another opportunity. The Stormborn Chronicles is the story of that opportunity arriving — and of the boy who stands inits way without knowing why.
