On Christmas morning, Nathaniel Carter faces the most important day of his life: his magical affiliation examination. In a world where magic is real but rare, he hopes for something extraordinary, perhaps even the power to summon unlimited cookies. But as his loving, chaotic family gathers, a deeper truth about his destiny begins to stir. What if the magic he's meant to wield isn't just extraordinary, but terrifyingly unique? What if his true calling lies not in light, but in the shadows, and the Church's examination is merely the first step into a supernatural world far more complex and dangerous than he could ever imagine?
