The shot wasn’t meant for him. That’s the joke. One stray bullet, one wrong place, one too-loud laugh at the wrong corner store. And just like that—our hero, Marcus King, finds himself bleeding out on the sidewalk while the world keeps spinning without him. But Marcus doesn’t wake up in a hospital. No white light. No angel wings. Nah. He wakes up in The Lobby. A DMV-looking waiting room, except the clerks are seven feet tall, wear cloaks made out of shadows, and the “Now Serving” number never changes. Marcus: “Aw hell nah, y’all got me in demon customer service?” That’s when he meets Ms. Kali, the receptionist of Death. She’s ancient, terrifying, and chewing gum like she’s seen every soul come and go for the last ten thousand years. And she offers Marcus a deal: • He can stay dead. Boring. • Or… he can work off his “early death fee.” How? By going back to Earth with a soul-wrangler’s badge and the ability to drag runaway spirits, demons, and escaped souls straight back to the underworld.
