In a remote Indian village where the dead never fully sleep, Ananya is sent to live with her estranged grandparents and discovers her family’s secret role as Keepers of the Dead, corpse retrievers who bind vengeful spirits and prevent unquiet bodies from rising as corpse demons. Trained by her hard edged great-uncle in a ritual system that values silence over truth and balance over justice, Ananya’s rare gift, hearing what the dead were truly owed, draws her into dangerous negotiations with spirits born from buried crimes. As she befriends other “marked” village children carrying the overflow of failed rituals, Ananya must choose.
