Disguised as a male guard, Evelyn infiltrates the state's most secure prison fortress to find her father. But an accidental promotion traps her in the darkest sector, straight into the path of the commander known as Tsar, a man who would be behind bars himself if it weren't for his rank. The deeper she digs, the more dangerous the stakes become. The world she’s stepped into is hiding an illegal alchemical conspiracy stretching across the empire. Now, her voice-altering potion is failing, and a commander who has never lost a tactical war is starting to watch his newest guard far too closely. If she's caught, she won't just lose her freedom. She’ll become the empire's next experiment.
