Waking up paralyzed no more, Aidan Blackwood finds himself trapped on a rickety ship in an endless ocean, a disembodied voice declaring him a player in "The Great Maritime Survival Game." Cured of his illness, he's now just another pawn in a cosmic experiment, forced to navigate treacherous waters where a mysterious "Black Fog" hunts the unwary. With a cryptic logbook as his only guide and a rusted flintlock pistol as his sole defense, Aidan must confront the chilling reality that his new, healthy body is merely a tool for survival in a world where death means more than just losing the game. But what secrets does this vast, dark sea truly hold, and what horrors lurk just beyond the fog?

I’m up to Ep86 so can only review to there. Content may be sensitive to some people. It regularly covers suicide, insanity, cannibalism and witchcraft as well as other aspects of horror. If you’re not into these then i would recommend not listening to this book. The mc has a strong personality and the team up is well handled. It’s good seeing them have each others backs. The story is always predictable, and the island adventures are very creative. Lots of action but not the traditional ‘fighting/combat’ style. This is definitely more of a psychological thriller, with a touch of humour in the mix. I’ve dropped the score because the narrator has a classic case of mispronouncing words and there’s no sound effects to liven it up. For those who enjoy a touch of horror, you may find this story up your alley without over doing it.

Pretty good combines the premise of something like sea of thieves and call of Cthulhu

Chanced upon this story, not far in, but it’s different so far but seems the story building is going great. It’s a bit darker than most. Somewhat pirate theme, trading etc. loving the witch who just wants to know and create things
