Leoric Emberfall is only a blacksmith’s apprentice in Emberhold, a city built on fire, iron and old secrets. He trusts steel, sweat and the work of his own hands. He does not believe in prophecy. That changes the morning a strange metal is delivered to his forge. When it touches flame, it forms a blade that should not exist. The sword is Ashbrand, a lost relic of the dead kings of Valdaryn. Ancient runes awaken at Leoric’s touch and reveal a truth the kingdom was never meant to hear: he is the last heir of House Pyrelion, the bloodline destroyed when the Iron Usurper took the throne. Now the king’s hunters are closing in. Emberhold is under lockdown. And the prophecy tied to Ashbrand carries a cruel promise: The blade will claim the crown. But the crown will claim his life. Hunted, betrayed and forced into a war he never wanted, Leoric must decide whether to run from the throne or become the weapon that could burn a kingdom back to life.
