The Boy the Fire Refused

The sacred fire chose every child in Cindral. It refused only one. Branded Unlit, betrayed by his noble best friend and thrown out with his dying mother, Tarin Vell is sent to sweep the burial fields, where the forgotten dead begin to speak to him. His empty heart can carry embers no one else can hold. But every borrowed power burns away a memory, and the last boy like him burned eight hundred people alive. Can Tarin rise without becoming the monster everyone fears?
