Part 1 The Edge of the Lawn. Maya Lin finds herself at Blackwood Manor, where she discovers the lifeless body of Doctor Vance slumped in his sedan. She receives a text message from a blocked number warning her never to step onto the grass after midnight, as the soil is "always hungry." In her panic, she steps into the mud, which comes alive; thick roots anchor her boots and begin dragging her down into the freezing earth. Distorted, faceless silhouettes emerge from the trees, mimicking her screams for help. Using a metal flashlight, Maya smashes the roots, frees her left foot from her boot, and tumbles onto the safe gravel driveway. The roots retreat, and the hole flattens. She receives a third text stating the iron gates are locked, and she must go back inside the mansion to find a "master ledger" in Doctor Vance's study to read the remaining rules to survive until sunrise.Part 2: The Master Ledger Maya returns inside Blackwood Manor, and the heavy doors slam shut and lock on their own. She navigates the dark house up to the study, passing a bedroom where she hears the rapid, frantic scratching of a pen on paper. Inside the study, she finds the master ledger bound in black leather. Reading it, she makes a sickening realization: she is not the first house-sitter, and Doctor Vance has been using people as test subjects for years. She finds her own name at the back, followed by new rules: Rule 4: Never step onto the lawn after midnight. Rule 5: If you enter the study, you must immediately close the frosted glass doors because the entities cannot see through frosted glass but can smell human fear. Realizing she left the doors open, she hears the scratching stop and dragging footsteps approach. Part 3: The Frosted Glass.Maya bolts to close the frosted glass doors just as a shifting mass of static and jagged limbs slams against them, fracturing the panes. Following the rule, she covers her mouth to stifle her fear. The entity mimics her mother’s voice, weeping and begging to be let in, but Maya holds her breath and refuses to give in to the trick. The entity eventually growls and retreats. Maya reads the next rule in the ledger.Rule 6: The entity cannot cross the threshold of the study unless the grandfather clock strikes one. If still inside, the occupant must find a hidden key in the desk to unlock a safe behind the painting. With fifteen minutes to spare, she breaks open a locked drawer, retrieves a skull-shaped iron key, and uncovers a safe behind a painting of the manor. Inside, she finds a vial of thick silver liquid and a note from Doctor Vance stating that Rule 7 requires her to drink it. The liquid will stop her heart for exactly 60 seconds to trick the house into thinking she is dead, but if she doesn't wake up in time, she will belong to the manor forever. The clock strikes one, and the frosted glass doors shatter. Part 4: The Sixty-Second Death & The Silent Void.As the entity rushes into the dark study, Maya drinks the silver liquid, which freezes her muscles and stops her heart. She collapses to the floor as the entity enters and inspects her limp body. Trapped in a sensory vacuum, Maya counts the seconds in her mind while experiencing the frequency of the house and its victims' memories. The entity accepts the trick and leaves. However, when the 60 seconds are up, Maya’s heart fails to restart on its own. Just as she begins to slip away, her phone on the floor violently vibrates, sending a physical stimulus that shocks her heart back to life.She receives a text warning that by restarting her heart, she has altered the house's frequency; the entity now knows she is alive and is furious. She has five minutes to find Rule 7 before the creature returns. Suddenly, something massive begins sprinting full speed down the hallway toward her.
