Humanity found the Genesis Expanse by accident, and stayed because of what it does to the people who come back. Kill a beast, take its shards. Fill five shackles, and your body will let you evolve past what a human being is supposed to be. Every hunter knows the price going in. Stern Novise is sixteen, unlicensed, and six months into a hunt he was never meant to start. He has no sponsor, no weapon worth the name, and no intention of dying in a place his father's killers have never had to enter. What he has is patience, a very short list of people left to protect, and a willingness to do the things the survivors won't.
