The story is an urban fantasy thriller set in South Africa. It follows Enock Mpila, who believes he is an ordinary, fatherless township boy struggling to survive a brutal corporate job in Sandton and extreme poverty in the Crossroads informal settlement in Middelburg. In reality, he is Prince Enock Mathelele, the last surviving heir of the Water Kings. Twenty years ago, his grandfather, King Bosego, used his final ancestral magic to seal Enock’s royal identity to save him from a bloody massacre carried out by a coalition of rival rulers. Now, Enock's magic is leaking out because his soul is reacting to two massive changes: his toxic environment and the fact that his girlfriend, Mogale, is secretly pregnant with their child—the next royal heir.
