Kael Veyr is Blackthorn Academy's lowest-ranked student, a zero in a world where magic defines destiny, but his inability to wield Aether hides a deeper, forbidden connection. When a catastrophic Gate breach unleashes creatures from the Hollow, trapping him and his professor, Kael discovers his touch can manipulate the very energy that dissolves others. Forced into a desperate escape through a newly opened Gate, he confronts a mysterious door that demands a memory as payment for passage, revealing a chilling message: "THE LAST KEEPER HAS RETURNED. THE PRISON IS FAILING." Now, with ancient eyes watching from the abyss and his mother's voice echoing from beyond, Kael must navigate a treacherous new reality where his weakness might be the key to unlocking a power that could save—or doom—them all.
