At 10:47 at night, Detective Matt Kane's wife, Rebecca, calls him to say, "I love you." Before he can say it back, a sniper's bullet comes through their kitchen window. Matt hears all of it on the phone. Minutes later, an unknown number calls him. On the line, a stranger plays back Matt's own screams. The killer is the Listener. He listens for days before he kills, and he fires at the moment that hurts the most. The LAPD calls Rebecca a random victim and takes Matt off the case. Matt knows she wasn't random. So he hunts in secret. His son has stopped speaking, and his daughter wants answers he cannot give. And Matt answered that call. Now every word his family says is within earshot. If he can hear you, he can kill you.
