Mewar Ki Maharani

The main source of the story of Rani Padmini (or Padmavati) is the epic 'Padmavat' by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, which describes her as Queen Padmavati of King Ratan Singh of Chittor. Hearing of the beauty of Queen Padmavati, the Sultan of Delhi Alauddin Khilji attacked Chittor and deceitfully captured the king. Ultimately, to save their honour, Queen Padmavati and other women of Chittor committed 'jauhar' in which they jumped into the fire.
