A desperate brother dives into a full-VR game, Gilded Ascent, to earn enough real-world money to save his dying sister, armed with nothing but a spreadsheet and a plan to safely farm virtual herbs. But when a glitch forces him to choose the most useless companion imaginable—a honey badger named Barnaby—his carefully constructed strategy shatters. Suddenly, the game's logout button vanishes, a server-wide event locks players in, and death in the virtual world now carries terrifying, real-world neural consequences for his already fragile body. Stranded in a high-level zone with a butter knife and a sleeping badger on his head, Nolan faces not just virtual monsters, but the very real threat of his own heart giving out. Can he survive a game that's become a deadly trap, or will his desperate gamble cost him everything?
