The world's most famous footballer is legally dead. Ninety million fans chant the name, Leo Vance. But eight years ago, that name didn't exist. There was only Cole Mercer, a seventeen-year-old from a dusty Texas border town, accused of a crime he didn't commit, betrayed by the girl he loved, and erased by the men who ran Maddox. The records say he died at seventeen. Now he's back. Rich. Famous. Smiling. Nobody knows why the dead boy came home. Nobody knows what's really inside the old leather boots he refuses to take off. And nobody in Maddox is ready for what he's been planning for eight years. Some debts get paid in blood.
