The story begins on Planet Mangola, where a brutal war leads to the defeat of the Demon race by Humans. However, a Demon Sorceress prophesies that a child born into the Udayagiri lineage will eventually annihilate the entire Demon race. The Demon King orders his generals to find and kill this infant immediately. Fifteen years later, the focus shifts to Arya Udayagiri, a young student at the Nilgiri Ashram. Once a prodigy, Arya has become a timid outcast and a "manual laborer" for other students after discovering he is an orphan. He is constantly bullied, especially by Princess Panchakshari, his arrogant former fiancée. After a violent confrontation where Arya is brutally beaten by other students at Panchakshari's behest, he flees to the forbidden Black Lake to end his life. Panchakshari follows him and kicks him into the deep, mysterious waters. Miraculously, Arya survives; a strange lightning bolt protects him from a crocodile and washes him ashore. He wakes up completely healed, wearing a mysterious glowing ring that speaks to him with a witty, sarcastic voice.
