Seventeen-year-old Riku Hayashi has spent three years at Kage Academy being nothing but a punching bag—an orphan with no clan, no legacy, and no hope. That is, until a hidden chamber beneath the school awakens a centuries-old spirit, the First Shadow Hokkan, and transfers to him a forbidden power: the Shinobi System. Now, Riku’s senses are superhuman, his reflexes preternatural, and every step draws the attention of the Academy’s deadliest heirs. With the system guiding his every move, he must survive deadly trials, outsmart rival clans, and unlock his latent abilities—or die trying. The Academy called him a failure. The Shinobi System could make him something far worse: a force no one is ready to face. But can he master this power before it consumes him? Can he survive the eyes of enemies who will kill to claim—or destroy—the legacy of the First Shadow? And when the system tests him, will he emerge a hero… or a weapon?
