Patch Day

The world updates like buggy software—and no one’s power is safe. Every “patch day” brings random changes: flame that turns to frost, bubbles that burst into fire, toast that comes out half-burned, half-frozen. Manuals arrive for abilities people can only control one percent of the time, while towns divide into factions arguing whether the System is salvation or sabotage. Dayton Vale never asked to be special, but the System won’t leave him alone. Labeled “incompatible” and forced into the role of an anchor, he becomes the only thing keeping his town from collapsing every time the code glitches. Now he has to survive rollback threats, hotfixes, and compatibility checks… all while baking striped loaves of “divorce bread” and trying not to laugh himself out of existence.
