Since the Severing, it has not rained. Their obsidian heart-forge, the source of their power, is cracking. Between them lies *The Forbidden Shore* — a graveyard beach where the Great War was fought. After the war, a magical scar called *The Abyss Wall* was erected. It is not a wall you can see. It is a law of nature: sea cannot touch land, land cannot touch sea. Anyone who tries to cross gets violently thrown back. It is the most powerful spell ever cast, fueled by the heartbreak of two lovers forced to give up their children. THE CORE PROPHECY (The engine of the series): When blood of tide and stone is born as two, one to grow and one to unmake. Severed they will destroy their worlds. The Pride believes if they control both twins, they can use Destruction to boil the ocean and steal its water. THE MAIN CHARACTERS: KAEL (10, later 17) — The Twin of Creation.* Raised in Aquarius by his mother Princess Naandaa and his ruthless grandmother Queen Lysandra. White hair, blue eyes, emerald glow. He is kind, curious, empathetic to a fault. His power is beautiful but terrifying — when he is scared, coral grows through the walls; when he dreams, entire gardens bloom and die in seconds. He has been told the land is evil, that his father was a monster who abandoned him. He believes he is an orphan of war. His flaw: he wants to save everyone and believes no one is truly evil, which makes him vulnerable. . RHYDIAN (10, later 17) — The Twin of Destruction.* Raised in the Citadel by his father Prince Thaimoireign and his cruel grandfather King Magnus. Black hair, crimson eyes, black veins that crawl when he uses power. He is angry, broken, but deeply loyal. His power is decay — he can turn a sword to dust, age a man to bones. But every time he uses it, it eats him from the inside. He has been told the sea people are filthy animals who killed his mother. He believes he is a weapon, not a boy. His flaw: he believes he is unlovable and destined to destroy everything he touches. PRINCESS NAANDAA (29) — Mother of Creation.* Heir to Aquarius. Beautiful, political, heartbroken. She obeyed her mother and took Kael into the sea to end the war, thinking she was saving both sons.
