When the bank threatens to swallow her restaurant, chef Lila Moreau is out of options—until an old almost-love walks through the door with a ring in his pocket and a visa about to expire. Jabari Smith never planned to propose with immigration paperwork on the table. But a spousal sponsorship might be the only way he can stay in Toronto legally—and the only shot Lila has at saving Spice Haven, the Jamaican–Italian kitchen that holds her family’s legacy. Bound by a marriage-of-convenience that has to look real to lawyers, landlords, and late‑night immigration checks, Lila and Jabari move into the tiny loft above the restaurant and stitch their lives together under a microscope. Shared leases, joint bank accounts, engagement parties caught on CCTV, and unannounced 2 a.m. visits from border services turn their “agreement” into a high-stakes performance they can’t afford to flub. But in the heat of service and the quiet of the pillow line between them, the line between survival and something softer starts to blur. Set in wintery Toronto over a bustling neighborhood restaurant, Bound to Spice Haven is a slow-burn, closed-door romance about food as love language, belonging as a battle, and two stubborn people learning that the hardest part of a marriage-of-convenience isn’t convincing immigration it’s real—it’s convincing themselves it’s not.
