Daphne Hawthorne never asked to be a pawn in court politics. The spirited daughter of a powerful duke, she longs for freedom and love beyond palace walls. But at a glittering ball, her life changes when her cousin’s threats, a mysterious death, and the unwanted attention of Crown Prince Lucien Valero pull her into the kingdom’s most dangerous intrigues. As jealous rivals scheme, old grudges resurface, and sinister plots circle her family, Daphne must learn to outwit those who would ruin her. Torn between her own independence and Lucien’s relentless pursuit, she discovers that survival in the court requires more than courage—it demands sacrifice, cunning, and a strength she never knew she possessed.

This plot is another heavy drama. Same as all the other stories in this app. Can’t listen to it anymore. I am stressed at work, I don’t want to add another tension in my life by just listening to this nonsense

This was an amazing story that had twists and turns everywhere. I haven’t had a bad story yet. I love stories like this one. Keep them coming. I wish the story would have went on a little longer but not bad of an ending.

This book is a continuation of The Duke’s Masked Bride. So far I do like the storyline ; however I am finding it hard getting used to the changes to the characters names. I much prefer the names Edgar over Cyrus; and Alessandra over Isadora . I find it heartbreaking that everyone seems so serious all the time. I miss the comedic moments between the characters in both the American and English versions of the Duke’s Masked Bride. I do hope the story lightens up a bit.

So I can back to give my opinion. I have made it to page 133 and so far I’m loving it. It has the same familiarity to the Dukes masked bride, but different. There’s no back stabbing sister, no evil step mother, no father trying to sell his daughter off or disgrace them. The Duke reminds me of Edgar but he does not play about his family the Duchess doesn’t either. The female lead is smart and strong minded the brother doesn’t play around either. The Crown Prince has low tolerance for drama and doesn’t play about his women. ( there’s a twist with him as well that’s different from any Royal family book) He reminds me of the Lucian from Hellfire hearts. Of Course you have the scheming women and men, but it’s a good listen. I’m really liking this book the author didn’t disappoint.

The story is fantastic! The ending is terrible! Way too much left unsaid and incomplete!! What happened to reed and Darius? And Agnius? Like what!
