Long before crowns were forged and borders were named, there was Gwadana—a forest older than memory, where the living walk beneath the watchful gaze of the dead. The trees are said to drink blood, the soil to remember every vow broken and every life taken upon it. Those who enter do not leave unchanged. When a fragile peace between rival clans collapses, a child is born under an omen written in ash and drumbeats. Marked by both violence and blessing, the child carries a bond to the ancestral spirits that guard Gwadana’s heart. To some, this bond is salvation. To others, it is a curse that must be destroyed before it awakens the forest’s full wrath. As war creeps closer and ancient rituals are revived, the boundary between the living world and the spirit realm begins to thin. Ancestors whisper through roots and shadows, demanding remembrance, balance, and blood. In Gwadana, power is not taken—it is inherited, paid for, and endured. Born of Blood, Bound by Spirits is a dark African-inspired medieval fantasy of ancestry, sacrifice, and the dangerous price of forgetting who came before you.
