When her father's health insurance is mysteriously canceled, college senior Sloane Hastings needs a miracle to cover the climbing medical bills. Desperate, she crashes a brutal open-call interview and secures a lucrative job as the personal assistant to Julian Thorne, the city's most ruthless billionaire CEO. Her plan is simple: keep her head down, hide her financial genius, and survive the grueling workload. But Julian is dangerously observant. The ice-cold corporate predator quickly realizes his new assistant isn't a subservient pawn, she's a caged mastermind. Just as the volatile chemistry between them ignites, a devastating betrayal by her fiancé shatters Sloane's last safety net. Out of options and entirely out of mercy, she's done playing nice. Teaming up with a corporate shark is a fatal risk, but to burn the people who wronged her to the ground, having the devil on her side is exactly what she needs. When a girl with nothing left to lose makes a deal with the devil, the real question isn't who will get burned, it's who will be left ruling the ashes. I’m so sorry. This is a pretty good book but listening to it is not very enjoyable. I’ve literally had to increase the playback speed twice. I’m not sure how you turn someone receiving a phone call into a five minute buildup. This book has way too much repetitious and overly explained moments. The narration is a little weird as well. Like I said, it’s good but very annoying. I’m trying so hard to at least listen to find out what happens with her dad. Very good plot but the dragged out and repetitive moments are less enjoyable.
