Ethan Cole is an eighteen year old boy carrying the weight of a dead sister, an absent father, a struggling mother, and four years of total isolation caused by a brain injury that made him an outcast at school. On his birthday, abandoned and invisible, he jumps off a waterfall to end his life. He survives, but not alone. A werewolf bite in the dark water rebuilds him overnight into something powerful and unrecognizable, and for the first time in years the world notices him. He moves to a new city with his mother and tastes what normal life could have been. But the transformation has stages, and the darker ones are already moving. When rage drives him to track down and kill a predator, the second stage completes itself and the full moon does the rest, stripping away the last of who he was and unleashing something that nearly kills his own mother. A team of hunters closes in, a dying wolf pack makes its last desperate stand, and the street battle that follows destroys almost everything on both sides. Victor Harrow is the only hunter left standing. Mara is the only wolf. And in a Millhaven hospital a hybrid child is born with gold eyes and no father, his mother dying as he takes his first breath. The boy who jumped to end his life has become the origin of something the world has never seen before. And the woman watching from the shadows outside the hospital has been waiting for exactly this moment.
