When homicide detective Elena Brooks discovers a brutally murdered doctor tied to a classified military experiment, the evidence leads her to a man who should have been dead for twelve years. Roman Cross was once a decorated soldier. Then Project Chimera turned him into something stronger, faster, and far more dangerous than human. He escaped, disappeared, and spent years living in the shadows, watching over Elena from a distance because of a promise he made to her mother before she was murdered. Elena remembers Roman differently. Fifteen years ago, on the worst night of her life, a terrifying silver-eyed stranger saved her. Now he is back. As Elena investigates a string of murders, missing people, and a conspiracy determined to reclaim its most successful experiment, Roman becomes the one witness she cannot put on the stand and the one man she cannot stop trusting. His enhanced senses can hear what suspects try to hide. His strength can save her life. But when fear or rage pushes him too far, the man disappears beneath something far more dangerous. Everyone else sees a beast. Elena sees the man fighting to come back. And the closer they become, the more dangerous the conspiracy becomes because the people who created Roman have discovered something they never expected. Elena may be the one person he will always choose over the monster they made him. But when the truth about her mother’s murder finally surfaces, Elena may have to decide whether loving Roman Cross will save them both… or give their enemies exactly what they need.
