Kaelin Thorn has always known he was different. In the quiet farming village of Ashvale, his icy blue eyes and strange instincts have made him feel like an outsider his entire life. But when mysterious forces begin stirring around him—winds moving without cause, animals reacting in fear, and dreams of ancient ruins that feel far too real—Kaelin begins to realize the truth. Something powerful is awakening inside him. Far beyond the peaceful valley, an ancient evil long believed defeated is beginning to rise again. Malreth the Hollow King, a sorcerer who once nearly destroyed the world, is breaking free from his prison in the darkness. And the only person who may have the power to stop him… is a boy who has never left his village. Joined by unlikely allies and hunted by creatures born of shadow, Kaelin must journey across the dangerous lands of Eryndor to uncover the truth about his power—and the prophecy that binds his fate to the world itself. But the prophecy holds a terrible warning. The same power that could save the world… could also destroy it.
