In a world where destiny is forged by the beasts you bond with, Kael, an orphan from the lower city, faces the ultimate test at Ascendant Academy. He stands among hundreds, hoping to be chosen by a creature that will define his future, but the system is rigged against those from Iron families. When a small, seemingly useless grey beast emerges from the shadows and chooses him, Kael is offered a chance to replace it with a stronger, more acceptable companion. But to abandon the creature that chose him would be to betray everything he believes in, echoing the very system that cast his family aside. He refuses, choosing loyalty over power, only to glimpse a flash of ancient gold in his beast's eyes and hear a whisper in his mind. What forgotten power stirs within this 'Iron-rank' creature, and what impossible destiny awaits the boy who dared to choose the unwanted?
