In a world where your social status, wealth, and survival are determined by the rank of the spirit beast you bond with, Kaelen is a "Null"—the lowest of the low. Born in the soot-stained slums of Oakhaven, his soul was deemed a "bottomless pit," incapable of holding the light of the high-ranking spirits that the elite use to rule. But the world’s definition of "empty" was wrong. Kaelen’s soul isn't a vacuum; it’s a Void. When Kaelen sneaks into the city's Discard Pits to save a dying, "trash-rank" sludge spirit, he triggers an ancient, forbidden evolution. His new companion, Nox, doesn't grow through training or sunlight—it grows by consuming the limitations and essence of other beasts. Joined by Elara, a disgraced Academy student with a "useless" winged hamster named Pip, Kaelen must navigate a dangerous game of deception. To survive the literal and social monsters of the Oakhaven Institute, they adopt the identities of mysterious high-lords from the Southern Wastes.
