Child of the Storm
In a divided superhuman world, status is determined at birth. The Elites are born with the rare Meta-Gene, granting powerful abilities. The Outskirts are powerless, destined to serve and survive on the edge of society. Every ten years, the city hosts The Ascendancy Tournament, where only the children of each family compete. Winners rise to Elite status for the next decade. Losers fall to the Outskirts. Power decides everything. Frank, lead scientist of Meta-Gene Labs, is the first to discover a way to create the Meta-Gene — a breakthrough that could end the city’s hierarchy forever. But the Elite Council has other plans: They want the serum for themselves, to give their children an unfair advantage before the next tournament. On the night of a violent superstorm, the Elites force the experiment to begin. Frank refuses, sensing danger, and is fired and thrown out of the facility. As he rushes home to protect his 8-months-pregnant wife, Sarah, lightning cracks across the sky — unnaturally drawn toward something. The storm begins pulsing like a living heart. Inside the lab, the Meta-Gene serum is struck by lightning. It explodes, vaporizing the facility and merging the unstable gene with the storm itself. As Frank reaches the city gates, he hears Sarah calling his name. A blinding flash tears the sky apart — and lightning strikes directly into her belly. The unborn child becomes the only being ever infused with storm energy and the pure Meta-Gene. Some call it fate. Some call it a miracle. The Elites call it a threat. And from this moment, the storm-born child becomes the key to the future of the city… or its destruction.
