When they stopped, he pulled her out of the car and looked right at her. "I don't know why I'm doing this," he said, cutting the ropes tying her hands. He pointed down a dirt road. "That road will take you out of the city." He gave her some cash. "I don't know if this is enough, but you need to leave the country. Stay gone. Pretend you're dead. If you ever come back, I'll have to kill you myself." Isabella's voice shook. "Karl, why? You're risking everything. If Vance finds out..." She couldn't finish the sentence. "Why are you doing this?" Karl knew he had feelings for her, but he'd never admit it. Loving his brother's woman would be stupid. "Just go," he said, turning away. "Don't come back." He got in his car and drove off fast.
