Growing up in the east slum area of Chicago, life was an unbalanced proportion of extreme poverty to limited funicular freedom. How bad can life get again when you live with a single mother who is rather dependent on you and her daily unholy communion , illegal drugs. My name is Allegra, 18 years old, I’m the daughter of an ex convict and a junkie. At the age of 15 I was already working my ass off and still struggling to make ends meet in order to feed myself and my junkie of a mother since 15. I have just been too eager to graduate and leave high school, leave the slums of Chicago and even this whole goddam city. Nothing was good enough for me here, I was like a burnt four leaf clover. The unluckiest girl ever. I just wanted to escape it all, escape reality if possible. So imagine my exultation and rush when I received admission to my dream university, the New York University.I was finally leaving this poor leaking dine where I worked to make funny chicken changes, leaving the east slums of Chicago and leaving my pain of a junkie mother. To go to my dream college, to go to my dream city , NEW YORK CITY!, i still cant believe it. But here I am , almost 20 hours later. In a train already moving in my dream city. I held my small duffel bag which contained all my belongings ,since I never owned much ,so close to my chest and I finally heaved a very big sigh of relief.
