Invisible waves of energy pulsed outward from every corner of the globe, and when they passed, nothing was the same. Animals changed first. Wolves grew to the size of horses. Ravens spoke in whispers. Dolphins constructed underwater cities in the deep Pacific. The creatures of the Earth had awakened — not to violence, not to chaos, but to something stranger and more profound: awareness. And then, humans began to change too. One by one, certain people awakened abilities — some could control fire, others could read thoughts, a few could bend metal with a touch. But rarest of all were those who could form a Bond. A true, unbreakable Bond with a creature of the new world. They were called Beastmasters.
