Molly Jasper awoke to the distinct sensation of linen sheets – rough, starched linen sheets. Her blurry vision swam with embroidered flowers on a canopy bed, a far cry from her Ikea futon. Panic clawed at her throat. One minute she was microwaving ramen, the next… this? Then the memories hit. A torrent of names, places, and the awful, sinking realization: she was Molly Jasper, née Crawford, a secondary character, a villain, in the historical romance novel, "The General's Beloved." Worse, she was the doomed stepsister, destined for a life of spiteful irrelevance after her engagement to James Miller, the charming but ultimately vapid second lead, fell through spectacularly. “Absolutely not,” Molly muttered, swinging her legs off the bed and nearly face-planting onto a patterned rug she definitely couldn’t afford. Then the system notification pinged – literally, a holographic-looking chime in the corner of her vision. [System Initialized. Welcome, Host Molly Jasper. Primary Objective: Achieve Universal Dislike. Reward for Each Successfully Hated Action: Financial Compensation.] Her jaw dropped. Universal dislike? Financial compensation? This was absurd. And… a way out. If she became *unbearable* enough, perhaps she could deviate from the pre-written storyline, break free of her destined fate, and, most importantly, earn enough money to buy her own damn cottage and live a life of glorious, independent solitude. She glanced at the clock. 7:00 AM. Time to get to work. Her first target: breakfast. Usually, Molly-the-villain was expected to be demure and polite, engaging in superficial pleasantries with her stepmother and half-sister, Claire. Today, however, she was on a mission. She entered the dining room in a blaze of deliberately appalling behavior. First, she grabbed the largest serving spoon and piled her plate with a mountain of scrambled eggs, bacon, and muffins, exceeding all reasonable portions. "Good morning, Mother," she drawled, her American accent noticeably out of place amongst the delicate Southern drawls. "Claire." Her stepmother, a woman whose hair was perpetually sculpted into a terrifyingly perfect beehive, gave her a tight smile. "Molly, dear. You look… robust this morning." Molly crammed a muffin into her mouth, crumbs flying. "Gotta keep my strength up. For, you know, *being* so unlikeable.” Claire, her stepsister and the *actual* heroine of the novel, simply rolled her eyes. Claire was the epitome of saccharine sweetness, a trait Molly now found deeply irritating. Apparently, waking up in this godforsaken novel did nothing for her patience. Next on her agenda: ruining Claire’s chances. Claire, in the book, was supposed to be swept off her feet by James Miller, a plot device that led to Molly’s eventual downfall. She wasn't about to let that happen. That afternoon, at a garden party hosted by the Millers, Molly unleashed her most audacious plan yet. While Claire was batting her eyelashes at James, Molly sauntered over, casually draped an arm over James’ shoulder, and announced, in a voice loud enough for everyone to hear, "James, darling, about last night… you were truly magnificent. Though I do think you need to work on your… stamina." The room went silent. James sputtered, his face turning a delightful shade of purple. Claire’s perfect smile crumbled. Mission accomplished. [System Update: Successful Dislike Action. Reward: $100.] A hundred dollars? That wouldn't even cover the dry cleaning bill after spilling gravy on her bustle. She needed to escalate. But then, *he* arrived. Lucas Crane. The most powerful man in the story. A war hero. A stoic, enigmatic figure whose gaze could curdle milk. He rarely attended social events, so his presence was… unsettling. He was also, according to the book, utterly ruthless. He stood at the edge of the garden, observing her with an unnerving intensity. Molly, despite her best efforts to appear unaffected, felt a shiver run down her spi
