In the winter of 2029, New Jersey stands on the edge of collapse. Poverty has gutted the cities, the government is crumbling under corruption, and a mysterious water-borne parasite is spreading through the slums—slow, invisible, and deadly. When the outbreak reaches Newark, Dr. Lucinda Baptist, a brilliant Caribbean-born scientist, and her partner Tyrese Davis, a street-wise Jersey native, must fight to keep their eight-year-old daughter Marie alive.
