Our protagonists, Damien Avalore and Mia Ragnar, start off being at loggerheads. Mia, being her disrespectful self and insulting self, makes fun of Damien's heritage, and Damien himself politely defers to her unkind words, as he knows she is a royal and is worried about the consequences of talking back to the Alpha’s daughter. Their first encounter starts off tense, with both of them trying to understand the other in silence. Mia, at one point, stands directly in front of Damien, and both of them stare into each other's eyes, trying to see something that, at the moment, stands invisible. However, Mia is soon overcome with emotions that are about to test her father's obsession with tradition, especially because Mia is his only daughter and next of kin.
