Seventeen-year-old Stephanie, lonely and restless, meets Nicky under a bridge where he’s tagging walls with spray paint. What begins as playful banter turns into an unexpected connection. He flirts like a ladies’ man, but underneath the grin is someone who surprises her: he listens, he asks about her dreams, and he teaches her how to create with paint instead of just running from her pain. Over the months, their friendship blossoms into romance. Through diary entries and late-night conversations, they share their broken families, their love of music and art, and their hope for something bigger than the small town they’re stuck in. But Nicky’s demons—substance use, anger, fear of being left—clash with Stephanie’s determination to carve out a better future. After one volatile July 4th, Stephanie chooses escape: she applies to art school in L.A., leaves him a goodbye note, and disappears.
