In the quiet village of Brindleford, young Finn dreams of becoming a Mythling Tamer—one of the chosen who form magical Bonds with the creatures that share their world. His first hunt should have been simple: find a gentle beginner Mythling, earn his first Bond, and prove he belongs among real tamers. Instead, Finn discovers Whiskerflare—a rare and spirited Silverbite—and with him, a fragile new Bond that awakens faster and stronger than anyone expects. But something else awakens in the Whispering Woods: a dark creature with shifting form and burning red eyes… a Wyrd. A Mythling twisted and corrupted by unknown forces. When the Wyrd follows Finn home, and a dying fledgling seeks him out in the night, Finn and Ivy are thrust into a mystery far bigger than a first hunt. Guided by a mysterious Glimmerfox and bound by loyalty to the creatures they love, the two must delve into forgotten parts of the forest, old magic, and secrets long buried.
