In a world where almost everyone Awakens, power is supposed to be simple. One ability. One rank. One ceiling. Kael Karnier missed his Awakening years ago. At twenty, he has already accepted the life waiting for him: warehouse shifts, salvage work, helping his overworked father keep the bills paid, and watching stronger people disappear into the permanent dungeons that rebuilt civilization. Then a blue screen appears in his bedroom. LEVEL 1. Kael hasn’t Awakened like everyone else. He has become a Player. He can gain experience. Raise attributes. Learn skills. Store items in an impossible inventory. And unlike every Awakened person alive, Kael may not have a fixed limit at all. There is just one problem. He is still broke, officially ranks near the bottom of the entire Adventurers Guild, and cannot even afford a real weapon. So his first dungeon run begins with his father’s old hammer, a teenage Adept armed with a former closet rod, and absolutely no idea what the System considers worthy of experience. Kael starts at the bottom. The rest of the world just doesn’t know the bottom is about to move.
